CONSORTIUM RESEARCH FELLOWS PROGRAM

For a more in-depth description of the Consortium Research Fellows Program, please visit our website at www.consortium-research-fellows.org.

The Consortium Research Fellows Program (CRFP) works in partnership with the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI), the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC), the National Defense University (NDU), and the Air Force Research Laboratory/Human Effectiveness Directorate (AFRL). The CRFP encourages the development of professionals with advanced degrees, allows for the exchange of information and expertise between the four organizations and college and university campuses, and contributes materially to the effective execution of ARI's, DMDC's, NDU's, and AFRL's programs of research.

The CRFP is a contractual arrangement in which students and faculty provide technical and analytical support to the sponsoring agencies. Our major activity is identifying and placing graduate students and junior and senior undergraduates and is described more fully below.

The CRFP also appoints university faculty to provide expertise not currently available in-house at ARI, DMDC, NDU, or AFRL. These professors are engaged on an occasional basis for short-term tasks, allowing a quick response to unexpected research requirements.

Consortium Research Fellows and Consortium Research Assistants

By far the largest and most important activity of the Consortium Research Fellows Program is the placement of graduate students as Research Fellows and undergraduate students as Research Assistants. Students work on teams at their sponsoring agencies and are mentored by government professionals. Fellows and Assistants become involved in their teams' projects, participating in literature reviews, experimental design, survey design, data collection and analysis, computer programming, web-site design, report writing, and other related activities. Most are students of computer science, education, engineering, information systems, psychology, or sociology. The sponsoring agencies gain substantial technical and analytical assistance while the students acquire excellent applied experience and also receive financial support.

Research Fellows and Research Assistants must be students in degree-granting programs of study at accredited U.S. institutions of higher learning for the entire term of their appointment and must be U.S. citizens. Candidates for Fellowships and Assistantships provide resumes and recommendations from faculty in their departments, are screened by the Program Director, and interviewed by the staff of one or more of the sponsoring agencies. Those who are appointed work part-time during the school year and up to full-time during the summer and remain in place for a minimum of one year. All are paid an hourly rate based upon level of educational experience and academic discipline.

Students are placed at work sites in the following areas: District of Columbia; Northern Virginia; Fort Rucker, Alabama; Mesa, Arizona; Seaside, California; Orlando, Florida; Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Fort Knox, Kentucky; Dayton, Ohio; Fort Jackson, South Carolina; and San Antonio, Texas. Further details are available on the Current Work Sites page of the CRFP website.

Students interested in applying should visit the Employment page of the CRFP website for further information and a list of current openings. Positions become available throughout the year, and we are happy to keep applicants' materials on file for possible future placement.
