The Consortium works closely with the D.C. Tuition Assistance Grant Program ("D.C. TAG") to identify students eligible to receive a TAG grant. Students are eligible if they live in the District of Columbia and have graduated or received a GED since 1998. TAG dollars cover the difference in cost between in-state and out-of-state tuition at any public institution in the country up to $10,000 per year. A TAG grant can also be used to pay for up to $2,500 in tuition costs at any local private college or university or any historically black college or university in Maryland or Virginia. To qualify, students must apply within three years of graduating and must be accepted by a participating school. TAG funds may be used to pay for the cost of the student's first undergraduate degree. Because it is a federal program, the D.C. TAG program requires eligible students to meet the same requirements posed by other federal grant programs.
